A victim advocate will guide a child and their family member/s through each step of their visit at Kids FIRST. They will also provide referrals and answer questions families have.
A child-friendly interview conducted by a trained forensic interview specialist. Interviews are recorded to help reduce the number of times a child has to tell their story.
It may be appropriate for a child to be examined by a specially trained physician. The physician determines the child's medical and emotional needs, and gathers evidence.

If a child's case is accepted for review at the District Attorney's Office, Kids FIRST hosts grand jury on-site for the child and their family in a safe and familiar setting.
Mental health is a new program coming to Kids FIRST in 2021! Our goal is to reduce wait times for children that will benefit from specialized trauma informed therapy.

the Mechanism of Sexual Abuse

Join us for a Lunch & Learn session with Kids FIRST Forensic Interviewers, Nichole Schumann and Aly Golditch! Tasked with gathering disclosure details to distinguish the mechanism of a crime, Nichole and Aly will break down the key elements that may impact your investigative and prosecutorial process. This session will also outline the methods forensic interviewers employ to reach clarity about the intricacies of sexual touch.
Together, they will explore multidisciplinary collaboration, forensic interview strategy & challenges, corroboration of a child's disclosure, and the limited scope of child sexual knowledge. Group discussion is encouraged to deepen our understanding of differing roles, goals, and most importantly - strengthen the quality of child sex abuse cases.
Training will be provided in-person at Kids FIRST located at 299 E18th Ave & virtually via Teams
New MDT Member Orientation

An in-person or virtual training for Lane County MDT members to gain a detailed understanding of Kids FIRST's services, as well as each member's role as a part of our statutorily required Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Intervention Team.
