First Visit
Below you’ll find a brief walk-through of our services to help prepare you for what you and your child might experience when you visit Kids FIRST. If you have any questions before your visit, please call us at 541-682-3938.
1
Welcome to our center!
Kids FIRST strives to maintain an environment that’s welcoming to children and families, and we will do our best to ensure that you and your child feel comfortable during your visit. When you arrive, you'll check in at our front desk.
2
Make yourself comfortable
After check-in, you’ll meet your child’s advocate. The advocate will lead you to one of our family waiting rooms where they’ll explain the process, answer your questions, and introduce you to any other team members who may be working with your family.
3
Support and advocacy
Your advocate will be there to provide support and answer any questions you may have. They'll ask questions to help best understand your needs. They will provide referrals and resources for you and your child.
4
Child-friendly interview
Our forensic interview process is child-friendly, safe, and non-judgmental. The interview is a one-on-one conversation between your child and an interviewer in a separate room. It is audio and video recorded to reduce the number of times your child is asked to tell their story.
5
Medical exam
A medical exam may be recommended. Our medical exam closely resembles a well-child exam, with the added use of a special light and camera to take a look at areas that may have been injured at the time of abuse. Please note: We do not administer shots or take blood samples during this exam.
6
Wrapping up
At the end of your visit, our team members will meet to share what was learned throughout the assessment and discuss next steps and recommendations.
We are here for you
Kids FIRST's goal is to ensure your child’s needs are met,
and that they feel safe during their visit to our center.
